Employers offering same-sex benefits

Last updated: March 5, 2000

Perhaps the greatest measure of support for same-sex relationship recognition can be found in the increasing numbers of employers across the country who have negotiated or voluntarily extended equal benefits to their lesbian and gay employees. What follows is not, by any means, an exhaustive list, but is simply intended to provide a few examples from various sectors to illustrate the broad range of support for equal relationship benefits.

Readers may wish to keep in mind that the benefits offered by particular employers may vary. In particular, few employers offer pension benefits, claiming that they cannot do so because of the definition of "spouse" in the Income Tax Act and the Pension Act. In addition, there may be a difference in the benefits offered by a parent firm and its subsidiaries.

Please let us know of any additions to the list! (webmaster@egale.ca)
