Songs by anti-gay dancehall artists Elephant Man and Sizzla will violate the Criminal Code and the Canadian Human Rights Act by inciting violence and murder against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-identified (LGBT) communities if performed during their upcoming Canadian tour. Remaining concerts should be cancelled and the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration should deport Elephant Man and Sizzla says Stop Murder Music (Canada).
Stop Murder Music (Canada) campaign is a coalition of human rights organizations who advocate on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-identified (LGBT) communities.
We write with reference to the upcoming concert performances by three
homophobic Jamaican dancehall artists “Capelton” (Clifton G. Bailey), “Baby
Cham” (Damian Beckett) and “Beenie Man” (Anthony Moses Davis). We call
upon you to deny them entry to Canada.
In their songs, these artists have openly advocated, encouraged and glorified
violence against and murder of gays and lesbians. Their anti-gay dancehall
tracks include lyrics such as: “All boogaman and sodemites fi get killed,”1 “Poop
man fi drown a dat a yawd man philosophy,”2 and “I’m dreaming of a new
Jamaica, come execute all the gays”3.
