Ontario Court to Release Judgement in Landmark Same-Sex Marriage Challenges

Tomorrow, July 12, 2002, Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice will release its decision in two landmark challenges to Canada’s marriage laws:

  • a challenge to the refusal by the City Clerk of Toronto to issue a marriage license to a number of same-sex couples seeking the equal right to marry; and
  • a challenge brought by the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto to the Ontario Government’s refusal to register the marriages of two couples performed by the Church.

Both cases were heard together. Tomorrow, those involved in seeking the equal right to marry will hold a Press Conference to respond to the judgment.
