Safe Schools Campaign

During the equal marriage campaign, opponents of equality told Parliamentarians that schools would be next, and that they would fight to prevent schools from being more inclusive of LGBT people. Recognizing the need to protect and include ALL students, Egale has launched its Safe Schools Campaign.

Egale’s vision is to help make schools across Canada a safe and inclusive place for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and questioning youth, for children of LGBT people, and for LGBT teachers and school staff. To do so, schools must not only have proactive and comprehensive discrimination and harassment policies, they must also ensure the presence of an inclusive curriculum and positive role models.

Obviously, this is a huge task. We need your help!!

It’s easy to take action to make our schools safe for everyone. Just follow these four action steps:

Step 1: Sign our Safe Schools Petition

Step 2: E-mail your Minister of Education

Step 3: Donate to our Safe School Campaign

Step 4: Invite your friends to take action

In addition to these steps, we encourage you to get informed, and to directly contact your local school and/or school board.
